Finding Significance

Jackie Rau

Today, my reading really hit home. And since I can't word it better, I'm just going to reiterate it...
Most people don't know what they want, but it is something different from what they have....
One of Satan's most effective tools to distract, disable, and ultimately destroys Gods people is the phrase "if only...." // if only I could get a high school or college degree, then I would be on my way. // if only I could find a good job, then I'd have status and worth // if only I could win the lottery, then I'd be set for life...
If you are looking for significance and satisfaction in the pursuits of your life, you are in for a rude disappointment. Purpose and meaning can never be found there; they are found only in the Giver of life himself. That's why at the end of this twelve chapter odyssey, Solomon concludes with these words "fear God and obey his commandments, for this is everyone's duty" (Ecc. 12:13) Today's society is marked by an obsession with significance. It's a pursuit as old as the days of Solomon- and just as fruitless unless God is the center and the circumference of the search. Let your search end with him and you will never be disappointed. •
